Second Generation


2. Nicholas Eve

Born about 1540. He died in 1614 in Pleshey, a yeoman.

He married Joanne and had the following children:

  • daughter who married Mr Tompon
  • daughter who married Mr Savall
  • Henry Eve (3)
  • John Eve
  • Nicholas Eve - He paid ship tax in 1637
  • Mary Eve
  • Joan Eve
His will made the following provisions.

  • His house "Martens" to Joanne his wife. The house "Hawdens" to John & Nicholas his sons.
  • He also mentions Henry his son and his daughters Mary & Joan.
Nicholas and his brother Christopher were often in trouble with the law;

  • In 1563 they pleaded not guilty to hunting a killing deer in Little Pleshey Park
  • In 1583 Nicholas and Christopher Eve of High Easter, yeomen, were fined for escaping out of the custody of John Nooke and Lawrence Reve of the same, constables of the same, after they had been arrested by the said constables by virtue of a warrant directed to them by Sir Thomas Myldmaye, knight, and for assaulting the said constables. The said Nicholas was fined 40s. The said Christopher was fined 20s.
  • Two day later they were bound over to keep the peace towards a Pleshey housewife.
  • They had been bound over a year earlier and Nicholas's alehouse licence had been taken away.
  • There was more trouble when Nicholas accused a customer of stealing his hound. The landlord pushed
  • him and said "Thou dost misuse my guests". Nicholas hit him.
  • Later a girl on the orders of his mother in law removed six beehives from his garden. A fight broke out which
  • resulted in the girl being granted a restraining order!
  • 1599 saw him in trouble again, but no details give.

3. Henry Eve

He died in 1614 in Pleshey, a husbandman.

He married Joan and had the following children:

  • Henry Eve
  • Joan Eve
  • Richard Eve
  • Mary Eve
