2. William Eve

He was born about 1520 and died in 1565 in Mashbury.

He married Joan Everade in 1540 in Mashbury. They had the following children:

  • Elizabeth Eve - born 1541
  • Dionysia Eve - born 1544
  • Agnes Eve - born 1547
  • Richard Eve (4) - born about 1550
  • William Eve - born about 1552
He left a will in 1565 where he asks to be buried in Chignal Smeeley churchyard next to his wife Joan. He leaves his house and land called "Stephens" to Richard Eve his son.

His brother Thomas Eve, clerk and rector of Mashbury and his brother John Eve of Margaret Roding are to be his executors.

His two mentioned brothers shall occupy his lease on Bedells Hall until his son William Eve reaches the age of 21 and is well educated. To my daughters £10 each at 18.


3. Thomas Eve

He was born about 1505 and died in 1565 - the same year as his brother William.

There are no details as to whether he married or had children.

Thomas Eve was the rector of Mashbury from 1555 to his death in 1565. Before that he was a chantry priest in Chelmsford. the same Thomas Eve, the Corpus Christi priest in Chelmsford in 1548, was described by the church commissioners as being over 40 years of age, literate, and of good conversation and usage: he was also teaching a school.

He had been one of the Canons of Little Leighs Priory who took the oath of supremacy in 1534 before the suppression of the Priory in 1536.
